homesick

i just looked at janet's facebook page and now i miss LA/my house like no other.

i miss sophia and janet and hyun jung and dan and sunyoung and jung woo and drumming and spanish everywhere that i only sometimes understand and driving and the 10 and the 210 and our random potluck dinners where none of the food really matches and eating and talking and the endless endless sunshine every single freaking day and sunglasses and air conditioner and people of color and DRUMMING and open spaces and parks and not being able to find parking at macarthur park and taking 10 minutes to drive 2 feet past alvarado on mexican independence day and sitting under trees next to couples making out and making outrageous amounts of noise and watching sunsets from the kitchen window at my house and waking up to fresh air and sunshine on sunday mornings with my mom. and boba from little bean. and frozen yogurt from x-colored-fruit. [why is there no frozen yogurt in korea??? i get the boba thing, but frozen yogurt???] and late night runs to yogurtland and cooking at logan's and seaver theater and frank breakfast/brunches. ok, this is never going to end so i'm just going to stop.

but... i just spent a lovely weekend with my grandmother making food and gambling and talking and i wouldn't have given that up to go back to the states. ah, life.

if i don't go drumming soon, i'm going to go craaaaaaaaaaaazyyyyyy...

2 months later

i finally have time to check my mail, let alone xanga. although i guess to be fair, i've been doing this instead:

daeahn.wordpress.com

it's weird having this space all to myself whereas i have to share the daeahn blog with sarah and jess.

anyways, i don't think it's a good bye, but i think i'm going to take a bit of a hiatus.

one of my students from last summer tagged me in a note on facebook and i can't believe that what i'm doing now is so drastically different from what i was doing last year at this time. now i'm looking forward to korean independence day instead of the chicago korean street festival.

lifes!

japan japan japan

it's weird writing stuff because i feel like this is "The Post College Blog" or something. but whatever. i'm just going to write prolifically about everything and nothing, and it doesn't mean anything more than what it is.

WED. graduation/being done with college starts to hit me on the bus ride from the airport. Emi met me at oizumi-gakuen station. dinner at her aunt's, which was awesome. her uncle was so funny. the first night, he was like.. "oh, i forgot all my english." (in japanese) and then the next day, he's like, "hey guys!" in english.

THURS. the shin-okubo adventure in which we don't eat korean food. wandering around the giant-ness that is shinjuku. went to hamura to meet up with emi's friend naho and have dinner.

FRI. the day of endless walking and exhaustion: national diet building/park, after which we tried to go to the imperial palace but then just rode the train back and forth a bunch of times. then once at the imperial palace, we were scolded multiple times because the prince of japan (??) was coming and we got yelled at for 1) being in the way, 2) sitting down while he was about to drive through, 3) not being in the line of people greeting him. haha.. oops. then ueno/awesome art museum/science museum, and dinner with naho. ate AMAZING okonomiyake.

SAT. harajuku/takeshita-dori (and almost got trampled by the crowd in front of forever 21), omotesando, shibuya, jehovah's witness meeting, tokyo tower, dinner with naho and naho's parents. ate really good raw beef "sushi."

SUN. yokohama with emi's cousin eriko - saw rowing races, taiko, chinatown. i love tanemaru, the little cartoony mascot for yokohama. it poses in random acts and teaches you the japanese words of what it's doing. "tereru, daijobu, uishiro, etc, etc." saw about 10,000 people crossing the street all at once in shibuya. no joke. it made me oddly happy and giddy. went to really cool buddha bar and met eriko's friend richard lee. "OMG richard lee!" haha... late night with emi.

MON. ebisu for lunch with Emi's ASIJ friends (with awesome stationery store and amazing tofu for lunch), asakusa (with the amazing eel and sweets), akihabara for like 2 seconds.

TUE. seeing emi off at the airport. fighting our way back through traffic by car from narita. met yumi, yohe. slept 12 hours to recover.

WED. got very good at charades without emi to translate. kamakura - giant buddha, hiking, temples galore. had GREAT sushi and finally ate a peach and more amazing yogurt. can now say "the doors will open on the left/right side" in japanese. HA! but then fell asleep on the train, missed my stop, and took another hour to get back.

THUR. brunch with IAN at tsukiji fish market where i had the best meal of my life. seriously worth waiting in line for over an hour because i was having little orgasms in my mouth at every bite. it was slightly awkward making faces like that in public but oh. my. god. also, the man making our sushi was really charming and nice and seemed really happy doing his job. ian and i both fell in love with him a little. and then to the airport and now i'm at my great aunt's house in korea.

i can't believe it's only been a week and a half since i left home.

and before that was SF/LA. highlights:

-meeting up with steph and viv in SF was amazing. i have really great friends. =) but also, i can't believe i didn't know viv wasn't a dessert person. WHAT?! (shock that i didn't know, not that she isn't a dessert person) also, the lakers won the playoffs. hahaha.. =)

-saw the brothers bloom, which might possibly be my new favorite movie. it has rachel weisz in it and it's hilarious. need i say more?

-played peggle, this really addicting computer game that kiel's mom plays. i played for like 4 hours before i was forcibly dragged away from the computer.

-giant transportation fiasco/logistical failure in LA due to plane delay. but sophia saves the day and there's good food and good people at hyun jung's house.

-SARAH'S HOUSE!!! her 100% asian high school. hakseup at seung hye's, dinner with sefa, and UP, the movie. the movie made me miss my mom.

home home home

so.. last week was crazy. i don't think i've ever been that exhausted before in my life. but it happened and life happened and it all worked out. i am so thankful for the people in my life. so so thankful. *sigh*

some highlights:

-kiel and i dragged my 70+ lbs of books to the post office and was told by the post office person that they don't ship boxes over 70 lbs. employing the "they are too heavy to steal" theory, we left the boxes at the post office, went back to scrounge for extra boxes in the dorms, came back to the post office, ripped apart my perfectly packed boxes and repacked them into 6 boxes in the middle of the floor. this was surprisingly unstressful and kind of fun. haha... it was also awesome because nancy came to the post office with her nieces to buy stamps and found us taking over half the post office with our massive boxes and piles of books.

-i booked my flight to japan/korea when i was fighting with my parents, but now that we've made up, i wish i had more time at home. haha oh youth.

-i spent the past week at bethany's in carlsbad with jess, which was great. we made jess watch like 3 hours worth of clips from so you think you can dance on youtube, ate ridiculous amounts of junk food, slept, and watched movies/tv. it was amazing. lol. i really really love that bethany is an english major and we can watch ridiculous movies like twilight together. im going to miss her stories about DFW and chavez.

i don't know when this having graduated thing will hit me yet, but for now, it just seems like another summer and life. i really like being young.

we went to a family friend's wedding reception tonight and it was actually really scary how every single person my parents knew asked me when i was going to get married.
